Can metal roofing panels be installed directly over my old, worn out shingles?
In most cases, the answer is yes since metal panels weigh only 1/3 as much as shingles. This option effectively eliminates the cost and problem of disposing of the old shingles. The best way to do this is to attach 1” x 4” or 2” x 4” furing strips at 24” o/c parallel to the eaves and ridge; we suggest you do not try this yourself.
How are metal roofing panels attached?
Our installers will use stainless steel screws— color matched to the color of your roof. The use of screw fasteners is preferred over nails for superior weather tightness and resistance to pullout. Fasteners are most typically spaced 24″ o/c.
Can insulation be installed under the metal roofing panels?
Most definitely! Among the types of insulation that can be used is 3/4″ insulation to create better energy efficiency.
Is metal roofing noisy when it rains?
Our metal roofing installations present no excessive noise. Our metal roof panels are typically installed over the existing roof and plywood on the outside, and come with a layer of sound-deadening insulation and your drywall ceiling on the inside. These materials combined help to deaden the sound.
How long will a metal roof last?
A metal roof has an indefinite life expectancy and a finish warranty of 40 years. Equipped with corrosion resistant substrates and long-life finishes for long-term performance, our metal roofs require minimal maintenance and increase life-cycle cost savings.
