The Many Faces of Composite Siding
The Differences of Composite Siding
The term composite siding is used rather casually in this industry, which leaves quite a few Oklahoma City homeowners unsure of what makes up the composite. This is especially true with our Cedar Ridge composite since it doesn’t fall in line with the two most common types, engineered wood and fiber cement. Fortunately, the siding experts here at Community Builders of Oklahoma City are here to explain our composite siding the other types of composite sidings available. The common composite sidings available in today’s industry are engineered wood, fiber cement, and acrylic. The type we offer is an acrylic composite from Cedar Ridge simply because that is the product we believe has the most to offer. The following brief of each siding type should shed more light on the mystery of composites.
Composite Siding Materials:
- Acrylic: This option is comprised of a solid vinyl core and a polymer mixture. It’s also equipped with insulation infused in the siding panel and a thermo barrier coating. Our siding panels are fused with a rigid core foam backing, which greatly increases its insulating value, impact resistance, noise reduction, and strength.
- Engineered Wood: Made by mixing wood products with filler and binders and then heating and pressing the material into boards, engineered wood closely simulates real wood. Additionally, a decorative layer is infused into the boards to increase the look of all natural wood. Engineered wood is treated to resist mildew, rot, insects, and other pests that commonly afflict wood.
- Fiber Cement: This composite is comprised of a mixture of sand, Portland cement, water, and cellulose. After these elements are mixed, they are steam heated and formed into planks. The greatest attributes of fiber cement are its strength and fire resistance.
